Velatir, an Odense-based startup, offers companies a solution to monitor and manage AI usage within their organizations. The company has secured €5m in seed funding six months after its pre-seed round.
Spintop Ventures, a Nordic early-stage investor, co-led the investment with Ugly Duckling Ventures, the Danish fund that had previously backed Velatir. Norrsken Evolve, an investor in the pre-seed round, also participated, along with two angel investors: Jan Oberhauser, CEO of workflow automation company n8n, and Thomas Visti, a former Chief Commercial Officer of Universal Robots and later CEO of Mobile Industrial Robots.
EIFO, the Danish state export and investment fund, contributed a match loan to the round. The pre-seed funding in February totaled DKK 10m (approximately €1.35m), making this latest round almost four times larger within six months. Velatir attributes its rapid sales growth since launch for securing the seed funding so quickly.
The platform provides a comprehensive overview of AI usage across an organization, including endpoints, browsers, vendors, agents, employees, and the underlying infrastructure. It offers real-time insights into tool usage, data flow, and associated costs, while also consolidating policy guardrails in one place. Additionally, Velatir maintains a directory of over 4,000 AI tools, serving as an app store for these applications.
By utilizing European-owned and hosted infrastructure, Velatir distinguishes itself from many enterprise software solutions typically built on American hyperscalers. This decision aligns with Brussels' efforts to promote tech sovereignty through the draft Tech Sovereignty Package.
"‘Sovereign cloud’ is a common phrase, often referring to American platforms with a European label," stated Christian Møller, Co-Founder and COO of Velatir. "We built Velatir on European-owned and hosted infrastructure from day one. While it's a more challenging path, it's the only viable option for us."
The startup's four founders bring diverse expertise from the sectors their product caters to. Michael Sørensen, CEO, has experience in security audits at Meta's data centers and previously worked in electronic warfare within the Danish Defense. Christian Møller, a lawyer by training, led AI Act and DORA implementation at a large European financial group. Elias Sørensen, CTO, holds a patent in AI-based vehicle control. Andreas Paulli, Chief Product Officer, contributed to the Cookiebot admin dashboard at Usercentrics.
The funding will be allocated for expansion across Europe and hiring, as Velatir aims to become the fastest-growing AI company on the continent within a sovereign enterprise AI market that has become increasingly competitive.
