Aspirity to Buy Majority Stake in Danish IoT Company Onomondo

London-based private equity firm Aspirity Partners has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Onomondo, a Copenhagen-based IoT company that runs its own network for connecting machines and sensors. The deal, announced on Wednesday, is part of a combined investment of over €100 million. Denmark's state investment fund, EIFO, is also participating, having backed Onomondo since 2021.

The transaction, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. This marks Aspirity's first Nordic investment, focusing on European tech services and fintech.

Onomondo operates in the Internet of Things (IoT) market, providing connected devices with trackers and sensors, serving clients like Maersk, Carlsberg, and Husqvarna. Their offerings include:

  • SoftSIM, a software-based SIM card.
  • A system enabling devices to switch between private and public networks.
  • A private LTE network for Maersk's ships, the largest of its kind at sea.

The new investment will fund global expansion, network equipment upgrades, and the development of new products.

"The next challenge is creating the right data and getting it to the right place. That is an infrastructure problem, and it is the problem we have spent eight years solving." - Henrik Aagaard, Onomondo co-founder and CTO

"Most rivals sell a basic link to the network and leave customers to deal with the hard parts. Onomondo instead built a single platform that links the device, the network, and the cloud." - Rasmus Jensen, Onomondo CEO
