Lightsage Raises $4M to Build Growth Stack for Software’s Newest Customers
A San Francisco startup has raised $4M to help software get chosen by AI agents. Lightsage calls this category Agent-Led Growth, according to the company.
Nexus Venture Partners led the round, with angel backers including former Salesforce CTO Steven Tamm, Postman CEO Abhinav Asthana, Apollo CEO Matt Curl, and DocuSign President Robert Chatwani.
The Opportunity
The shift from human users to AI agents interacting with software is real. Coding agents now pick libraries, install SDKs, and call APIs without visiting websites—often through model context protocols servers.
Lightsage runs simulations across various answer engines and coding agents, giving them real tasks and tracking their success or failure. CEO and co-founder Jun Liang Lee states:
"We are moving from an internet where AI tells people which software to use to one where AI increasingly uses the software itself. That changes what growth means."
The Challenge: Agent Payments
While Lightsage focuses on discovery, documentation, authentication, and API endpoints, the third aspect—agent payments—is a complex challenge. In Europe, these payments remain subject to PSD2, with no agent-specific regime or carve-out. Strong customer authentication still applies, raising questions about who provides the payment service, controls funds, and validates authorization once the act is delegated.
Customers and Investors
Lightsage supports tools for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and OpenCode. Named customers include Firecrawl, Reducto, Daytona, Rime, and Tinyfish. The round’s investors also include some of its named customers’ founders.
Despite the company’s ambitious goal, the funding amount pales in comparison to others in the space. Neo raised $100M for a control layer over agentic software.
