Tesla Launches $225 Balance Bike for Toddlers, Selling Out Instantly
Tesla has introduced a $225 balance bike designed for toddlers aged 2 to 5. This lightweight magnesium frame bike is pedal-free and motorless, relying entirely on toddler power. It features a five-way adjustable seat, the Tesla wordmark, and a T logo on the front.
Despite not disclosing initial stock numbers, the bike sold out immediately. This sits at the higher end of the balance bike price range, with most competitors offering models for under $100. The Woom 1, one of the pricier options at $249, at least includes brakes. Tesla is also selling a matching $30 balance bike T-shirt.
While Tesla has previously released similar products like the $1,500 Cybertruck for Kids and $1,650 Cyberquad ATV, this latest offering is a surprising turn for a brand known for its electric vehicles.
Tesla fans have been clamoring for an adult e-bike, but Elon Musk has expressed concerns about bike safety after a teenage accident and remains reluctant to produce one. This balance bike, while clever, feels like a compromise nobody asked for: a premium product with no brand identity aimed at a demographic that cannot yet read "Tesla."
For Tesla, this side business in kids’ merchandise is a low-cost way to engage the next generation of buyers, as their core car business continues to outperform expectations.
