This marked the first one-on-one meeting between the two, as reported by Axios and TNW.
Prior to the dinner, Trump expressed his intention to discuss Amodei's call for a slowdown in AI development, as per Bloomberg. Trump made these comments during a golf tournament near Chicago.
"We’re going to talk about it. I’m for, ‘Let’s go and let’s win.’"
— Trump
Amodei had advocated for a slowdown in AI development in an essay published on September 12th. However, Trump rejected this idea in a series of social media posts, directly mentioning Amodei.
A Brief Against Amodei
Opponents of Amodei sent a negative brief about him to the White House, as reported by Maria Curi for Axios. The document characterized Amodei as having a history of opposing Trump and as having "deep Democratic ties." The origin of this brief is unclear, and it is not a White House document.
The brief also highlighted Anthropic's falling out with the Pentagon, stating: "Clear example of Dario showing he doesn’t trust President Trump."
On Friday, a federal appeals court upheld the Pentagon's designation of Anthropic as a supply chain risk.
Further Meetings and Initiatives
On Tuesday, Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson will host AI CEO meetings at the White House, as reported by Semafor. The same day, Trump will launch a new AI-focused government website alongside Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, according to Bloomberg. Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown is also scheduled to attend.
