Amazon Reportedly Cuts Jobs in Its Retail Unit During Prime Big Deal Days Sale

Amazon has reportedly cut a small number of office jobs, mostly within its Stores division, during its Prime Big Deal Days sale. According to Business Insider and a source familiar with the matter, Reuters, fewer than 1,000 corporate staff across the US, India, and the UK were affected.

"We’ve adjusted parts of our Stores business," an Amazon spokesperson stated, adding that the changes would help the company focus on its core goals.

These cuts follow a larger round in October 2025 when Amazon cut about 14,000 office jobs, and another 16,000 in January, amounting to approximately 30,000 job losses.

Founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos further emphasized the need for more cuts in a Fox News interview, attributing the recent hires during the pandemic surge in online orders as a primary reason.

The latest layoffs also coincide with Amazon's significant investment in AI data centers, as reported by Business Insider. Despite this, Amazon has reached out to former employees regarding AI, machine learning, and cloud positions.

The company has not indicated further planned cuts.
