LG’s Humanoid Robot: Arrival in 2027 with Nvidia’s Isaac GR00T

Introduction

LG will unveil a bipedal humanoid robot in the first quarter of 2027, powered by Nvidia’s Jetson Thor processor, Isaac GR00T foundation model, and Halos safety system. This collaboration was announced at Nvidia’s Santa Clara headquarters on August 13th, 2026, between LG Corp chairman Kwang Mo Koo and Jensen Huang.

The Partnership

Nvidia (164news.com's guide to nvidia) (164news.com's guide to nvidia) provides the "thinking parts" with its Jetson Thor for onboard processing and motion control, utilizing the Isaac GR00T model and Halos safety system. LG, on the other hand, contributes the robot’s body, utilizing components from its own companies, including actuators, sensors, and batteries.

Timeline

Before the humanoid robot’s debut, LG plans to implement CLOiD, a wheel-based robot, at its washing machine plant in Tennessee by the end of 2026. This will generate synthetic and real training datasets for AI development.

Subsequent to this, Nvidia’s AI factory reference site on the Vera Rubin platform is scheduled for the first half of 2027, followed by an 80 megawatt facility in Cheonan, South Korea, by the first half of 2028.

A Competitive Field

Nvidia’s approach is not to back a specific winner but to offer the same stack to all competitors, including Japan’s robotics establishment, Unitree, Samsung’s new robotics division, and Hyundai’s Boston Dynamics.

Safety as a Key Focus

The safety layer is a critical aspect of this partnership. Jensen Huang emphasized the opportunity for physical AI to enable every machine to "understand the real world, reason, and act safely," addressing a significant liability concern in human-robot coexistence.

Conclusion

While the text’s original timeline suggests activity in 2027 and 2028, the only operational robot this year is a wheeled model in Tennessee.
